Small Cactus Flower Stack

This flower is about 8mm in diameter and a bit taller on a plant that is about 4cm in diameter. I stacked 44 slices with DMap and was pleased with the detail in the flower and the spines. http://www.photomacrography.net/forum/userpix/63_TinyCactusZSretouched_1.jpg I was able to use daylight with a l...

When I lived in Boca Raton, Florida giant mosquitos would be blown in from the Everglades once in a while. They were much, much larger than the usual mosquitos and really did bite.

I can only imagine how much attempts at mosquito control cost the state.

Scott, Great idea! I made something similar with graph paper back in the film days. I had an idea a few days ago that I haven't had time to work on yet. I wonder if I could make a card to substitute for the subject that would measure magnification and then "show" DOF for a given aperture. As you can...

Charles, Thanks for the information. It brings back fond memories. I still have a "Chipped Lens Kit" and I remember reading many of the Edmund brochures. My early experiments in electricity involved batteries, copper plating and hand-cranked generators. My hometown was making the transition to dial ...

Little Green Grasshopper

I had a good day today focus stacking small flowers in the backyard but they will have to wait till later. This tiny grasshopper was sitting a Gazania out in the front yard. It was only about 8-10 mm long at most. Here is the establishing shot. Too bad the grasshopper picked the most tattered flower...

Kurt,

You continue to entertain us with the broad variety of interesting creatures in your part of the world. Thank you for treating us to such a great set of images.

I can't remember the last time I saw a frog or toad in my area.

Guido,

This is a very nice image. You must be very steady to stack images shot at 1/13 sec!

Excellent.

Harold,

I had a strange problem photographing a red Euphorbia milii flower with flash. The red channel was very much overexposed relative to the green and blue channels. When I used diffused sunlight the problem did not happen.

One day I'll try to reproduce the the problem and post it here.

Ray,

These are excellent! My favorite is the last one.

The funnel spiders I have seen are much "hairier" and are more difficult (for me) to stack.

Harold,

That's a beautiful bloom. I may have a similar plant in my collection.

You have captured this well. I find deep red flowers difficult to photograph.

Kurt,

That is a fascinating creature. I wonder what it looks like after a rain? Do you have "after" pictures when they have morphed?

Thanks for sharing.
