Very nice!

It's interesting to see close up detailed areas like these. Not seen it before.

Outstanding images, some of the best I've seen of rotifers. It's great to see these 'sliced'.

Well done!

Yeah, the Zeiss and lomo are very close. The Wild is almost exact with zero color fringing with COL. I tried the lomo eyepieces but as you say, they seem to be compensating about the same amount. Similarly with my Periplan. It's just a couple of lenses causing problems so I'll keep an eye out for so...

Mix 'n' match problems

My setups are generally made from a whole bunch of mismatched parts scraped together as funds allow and I'm wondering how much this could be affecting optical performance. Specifically eyepiece to objectives. First off, my eyepieces are both Zeiss but one is Kpl 10x 18, the other is a Cpl 10x 18. Th...

I don't have any transparency film at this time otherwise I'd be going nuts with crazy ideas. I'll have to wait until I can afford it. I have tried just about every combination of stop/diffuser positioning but unless it's at the point of maximum concentration (condenser top) it just appears as a uni...

Here's another vid of a worm: https://youtu.be/2mgQyIVauwQ Sorry about the poor video quality, it's zoomed in at about 7x on the Galaxy S6 cellphone to show small details, nice shallow depth and clean out of focus. I'm quite happy with the results. Another thing is that there is little image shift a...

Hi Fan I used my wild fluotar 40x .75. I took the lens unit out of the housing, cut a small segment of card and it's held in place with a small dob of blutac 8) It's very easy to get to get to the bfp that way and easily reversible or if a different size modulator is needed. I adjust the size of sli...

Thanks, Ed. That definitely is a Thecamoeba. I looked for Amoeba variants but that never showed up, great find! The egg does look like a Rotifer and I have plenty of them, I also have numerous worms so I wasn't at all sure. The Schlieren idea was from this site: http://www.microscopy.cz/html/2514.ht...

Identifications needed

I have two critters that I can't id. I think one is an egg with something moving inside. It has a face, maybe a rotifer? The second I have no clue. It seems amoeba-like but has a ribbed carapace that's visible as I focus up on it. Coleps appear in both videos for scale. Anyhow, the first is here. Ob...

Yeah, I saw that.
Thorlabs wants as much for the device as a full second hand DIC microscope. The device itself as I've seen on other sites is a fairly simple setup provided your scope is equipped with external illumination like a Hal lamp. If I had a metal lathe I'd make one.

Dodt Gradient Contrast?

Has anyone used Dodt Gradient Contrast? I was reading up on the Zeiss Axioimager and they mentioned 'Dodt Gradient Contrast' as part of it. I've never heard of it so I did more looking around and it seems like quite a nice illumination technique. I did a quick rough and ready version of it that's fa...

It would be helpful if you could post a photo of the setup as you are using it, then it may be possible to narrow down what may be going wrong. Also, what wattage and type is the bulb, LED? Frosted? distance from mirror? Again, pictures would help. To narrow down the problems we need more info than ...

I think the bottom shelf should be non-reflective. I'm looking forward to the tests :D
