Re: some scales
Hello Chris, when you take a photo of a wafer at that scale, is the resulting 3d model completely flat? Yes, of course, even the wings of other butterflies are flat, such as sunset moth: https://skfb.ly/oPotU or Pieris with a vein in the centre: https://skfb.ly/oMsVB Delias sambawana boejanana has c...

Re: some scales
What kind of surface did you glue it to and what type of glue did you use? I'm just using a small drop of PVA glue which I smear across the surface of the microscope slide and wait until it gets a bit tacky (so it does not soak the wing), position the wing on the glue film, put a piece of wax paper...

Re: some scales
I am reminded that wings can never be completely flat, because the veins are a lot thicker than the membrane. So, another possibility is that you successfully glued the backside of a vein to the flat surface, but the membrane never did get flat on the front surface between veins. --Rik Hello Rik, O...

Re: some scales
Using wax paper or smooth (untextured) baking paper and a microscope slide works really well to flatten delicate subjects like wings without detaching that many scales. It's not perfect but I've not found a better solution so far, even a clean glass plate may end up with a static charge and take aw...

Re: some scales
Hello everyone,
In the previous photos you can't see that the wing is strongly bent.
It is also not visible on the stereo image.
But on the 3D model you can see it very clearly: https://skfb.ly/oSYqL
BTW, I actually wanted to mount the wing as flat as possible :-)

Re: cross-sections of MLCCs (multi-layer ceramic capacitors)
Hello Rik, In the case of the surface structure, the 3D models provide additional information, which can be observed very well on your models. The interactive version is not only particularly useful for recognising the structure of the surface but also the overall layout. Very well done, I like them...

Hello James,
The stereo effect is very good.
Perfect for me because I can look directly at it with my glasses for parallel view :-)
I can't cross my eyes

Hello Rik,
I've had a look at the 3D model in Sketchfab.
In my opinion, the surface structure comes out very well.

Hello everyone,
Many thanks for your comments!
The two little worms are at the top of the z-axis of the depth map.

In this case, you can look deeper with Rocking Stereo than with the 3D model:
