I have many different sized needles for varying insect size. I just dip the needle tip in super glue and stick it in the specimen. The needle can be stuck into clay and maneuvered easily.

Stacks of Beetles and a Wasp

Hello everyone, I haven't been here in a while. It seems like every month is going by faster and faster! I think I spend more time working in Zerene than I do sleeping  Took a break right now to post some stacks. All stacks are of rehydrated and posed specimens. Emerald Cockroach Wasp (Ampulex ...

Nice! I know you will enjoy the Mitty. The stack of the carpet beetle is clean and I think the lighting is good. Look forward to your next shots!

@ Lou - Thanks for giving me the correct info. Now that I think about it, the Bauhinias have bean like seed pods and all the orchids don't produce those. Nice to know  @Troels - Working with medium to large size beetles is not difficult for me when using styrofoam. But I will definitely try co...

Thanks Beatsy! After I've relaxed and posed them, I let them re-dry at least for one day. I've tried shooting them once after posing, but they end up drooping down onto their stomach. I pose them by sticking a pin in the underside and then sticking the other end through a Styrofoam board. I pull the...

Thank you Rumbert!

Thank you Lou! And you are correct :D I have many orchids in my backyard. I don't know what varieties they are, but I do know I have yellow, white, purlple and pink ones . And I was told that 3 of the trees I have are Bohemian orchids.

Thank you Rik O:) . I have only seen the Golden Digger Wasp twice in my backyard on the milkweed plants. It was pretty busy and was going from flower to flower only briefly in flight. It eventually flew over to the neighbor's yard but I didn't get a good look. I just now looked online and saw only 2...

A Few Stacks (June 25 to Sept.3)

Here are 6 of my favorite recent stacks. All of the insects in the photos are posed specimens. Great Golden Digger Wasp (Sphex ichneumoneus) Nikon 105mm 2.8 micro-nikkor, stack of 20. http://www.photomacrography.net/forum/userpix/5308_20160625214142_ZS_retouchedEditPS_1.jpg Calloplophora sollii Nik...

Pair of Parasites

Last weekend I did some stacks of a bed bug and lice (not from my head, not from my bed  ) . These were specimens that were preserved in ethanol. Bed bug (cimex sp.) 4x stack of 62. http://www.photomacrography.net/forum/userpix/5308_Bed_bug_77_1.jpg 10x stack of 265 http://www.photomacrography....

Chris S. thanks for the link. I would much rather give APS a try than go through Nikon customer service. The Nikon headquarters is actually only a 20 minute drive from where I live, but I've had horrible experiences dealing with them. So thanks again, I appreciate it.

Thank you everyone for trying to help me figure this out. I appreciate it very very much. This morning I took it to my trusted technician. He examined it and he found it it was a part behind the mirror (between the mirror and sensor). Unfortunately he couldn't replace the part. He told me that Nikon...

I pretty much use that flash setting regularly and haven't had a problem until now. Everything works fine when I tried the Micro Nikkor 105mm at 1:1. It's only suddenly happening when using objectives.

Camera problem

I have a problem that I hope someone can figure out. I was taking some stacks tonight, first stack no problem. Less than midway into the second stack the bottom part of the each frame blackened out, some frames more than others. I am pretty sure it is a camera issue, but what? I was using a Nikon D8...

Hi Leonard, nice photos! I'm not 100% positive but I'd say it's a lace bug, Tingidae family. That's about as much help as I can give ;)
