Re: Zeiss beam splitter's photocell purpose and related equipment

The photocathode looks like it is selenium. These were used for exposure meters for photomicrography as well as ocassionally being used for microscope spectrophotometry. They need a power supply of several tens of volts probably at least 50 and maybe as much as 400 depending on the application. Both...

Re: Jools

Very nice work.

It doesn't take a diamond to scratch glass. Almost any piece of jewelry is hard enough to do the job. Even glass pastes though glass varies greatly in hardness. Most glass used for fake jewelry stones tends to be soft because those are the ones with high refractive index.

What you have there is a very rare and valuable polarizing and petrological outfit. If you were to build a very careful auction with lots of good pictures you would probably be amazed at what it might bring on ebay. I think prices may be a bit lower as the people who recognize these things die off b...

This type of optic are often used on FTIR and Raman spectrographs. The imaging performance may not be the parameter that they optimized.

The camera adapter that Scarodactyl posted will work with an M4xx series but not with this one. As you have noted it takes a 30 mm eyepiece. 30 mm camera adapters are easily available and should work well. I would suggest a smaller sensor camera to use with this scope. These scopes were known to be ...

Another one of these has come my way and I am offering it again at the same price $700 net of paypal fees. Shipping not included. In unopened factory carton. I could double box it and ship it anywhere. This is probably about a $1500 unit if bought from AmScope. LSS has better QC. They are part of WW...

I found a home for this scope. When I set it up I was fairly amazed at the quality of it. There were some rough looking edges here and there but in places where it counted things looked very good. If anyone is interested I probably can get more of these. I did not do the phase ring alignment nor che...

The M5 is the last model with completely hand fitted focusing racks. The university where I work bought a bunch of them in about 1967 and many of them are still in service. I have on occasion attempted to consolidate broken pieces into working scopes, and this is almost impossible on the M5. The two...

You should ask the parts department at Leica Microsystems in Chicago. If they can't help you then you will need to remove the broken part and have a machinist duplicate it. If you find a rack gear with the correct pitch and size you may be able to start the machining process using that. If you can f...
