So I went to Swan Lake Nature Sanctuary on Sunday, May 31 with my new Macro lens and took some pics. This damselfly was kind enough to smilefor me.

First Shots
Picked up my new lens last night and went to Finnerty Gardens here at the local university to take some pics and try it out. It was a bit breezy, so the shots aren't perfect, but I got a few nice ones. It's definitely going to take some practice. Both shots are F2.8, ISO100, 100mm Av mode. First sho...

Like a kid on Christmas day
That's how I feel. My new Macro Lens is finally in at my local supplier and I'm going to go pick it up tonight. I picked this lens because it has good reviews and has a good price (in fact I saved $50 because I bought my Canon 40D from that supplier). So now, I'm giddy and can't concentrate on my wo...

That second shot of the rose petal reminds me of one of my own favorite shots I took at the Lt. Governer's House here in Victoria (note: url wasn't working at time, easter weekend site is down should be back later I'm sure).
My shot is on my website.

Macro Lighting
I came across these in my local Michael's Craft store. They are called OttLite and I was curious if anyone had experience with them for the purposes of studio lighting in general, and macro lighting specifically. Their caption is "Enjoy Life in HD" which seems to imply good quality lighting, but bef...

interesting shot. I always thought the Mandibles protruded from the ant's mouth, I didn't realize they could collapse right in like that. I actually thought it was the ant's butt for a second until the whole head was revealed. It looks like a stacked image. Can you provide details, number of shots, ...

Wow, they are both very lovely. You know I seemed to have read somewhere that one could eat those "fiddleheads!" I don't know though, if I were to have a taste for wadded up fresh fern leaves. It is good to see them though and the Wood Anemones blooming. Yes, Fiddleheads are delicious, taste ...

Thanks Rik. Along the lines of "vigorous open discussion" how about an unbiased (as much as you can be) comparison between CombineZ , Zerene Stacker , and Helicon Focus (at least as unbiased as you can be). Maybe someone else with extensive stacking experience can do the comarison? Since I want to d...

Re: One of my Tarantulas, comin at ya!
One of my tarantulas taking a walk on my hand. Taken with my cr@ppy cell phone as I had to be quick! BTW she's a young Chile rose. Nic image cyclops, my girlfriend's father is a world renowned Arachnologist, and has lots of spiders including many tarantulas in his basement. Like this fellow: http:/...

New Macro Lens
Well, it's been a long time since I've been on the forum. I've been very busy working on a new website for a company promoting free legal information here in Canada and so I haven't had much time to do any photography. However, I finally broke down and ordered my very first MACRO LENS!! I'm like a k...

Level Warning indicator on my Digital Rebel
Recently, My EOS 300D started to Flash the Level Warning indicator when I started up the camera (looks like [ b] ) but I can't find anything anywhere as to what this means, just a note in the manual that says "Level Warning". Camera still takes pictures ok but whenever it sleeps or is turned on that...
