Re: Help! Macro rail minimum 1µm step size is too big.
Oops! After putting the Nikon 50x/0.8 onto my WeMacro macro rail setup, I find the minimum 1µm step size isn't short enough in certain cases. I can't tell if this is a current issue for you or not, but FWIW the recent WeMacro for Android lets you specify 0.3 micron steps. I have been using this for...

Re: High-end Line Scan Lens vs High-end HR Objectives
What kind of non-linescan camera could even take advantage of it? Hassy, Fuji, or Pentax digital medium format have images circles of about 80mm, so that would be a good match. The issue is resolution, the lens would likely "out resolve" the sensor on these cameras. The Fiji also offers a multi-sho...

Re: Increasing length from sensor without increasing magnification
I guess I'm not understanding the issue, or perhaps your setup. With MFT the flange distance is 19.25mm. I don't know the specifics of the lenses you are using, but many of the (flatbed scanner, I assume?) lenses will have a pretty long distance to the sensor when used at the intended magnification....

Re: Debunking the high NA / coverslip correction myth
"I believe!" The Nikon 20x / NA=0.75 I use routinely is designed for cover slips and the lack of the cover slip is fairly well compensated for by changing the focus on Infinity Photo-Optical Distamax used as a tube lens. I went through a calibration process to find the ideal position for the focuser...

Re: Microplastic found on M&M Candy
There are three facts not in evidence: (1) that it is plastic, (2) that it came with the product, (3) that whatever it it is unsafe . M&M will send in their goon squad of lawyers if you post accusations like that. LOL. That big M&M seems nice, but I'd image he is a bruiser. "Lets science, shall we?"...

Re: CultureHustle Black 4.0
I have used Black 2.0 and 3.0 for this purpose and also for making black backgrounds / stages, its pretty amazing and does not seem to shed sharticles. Applying per directions and using a couple coats gives good results. I make a lot of paper light baffles for custom optics and use it there as well....

Re: White Shouldered House Moth
If moths were as large as house cats, they would probably make pretty good pets. It would also make the photography easier. Where is CRISPR when you need it?

Re: Problem. "Fake rotation" of the object, with my Mitutoyo10x
Its hard to tell, but sorta looks like an inversion of perspective as would happen in a hypercentric lens. But otherwise, yeah, this is the sort of counter intuitive stuff you see with 3D subjects.

Re: water soluble fluorescent dye
Hi,
Sodium fluorescein, rhodamine B, auromaine O all would "work" - but a lot depends on how they bind to the plant tissues that will determine if they make it into leaves or flower petals. These would cover a range of colors.

In Search Of: Difficult / unstitchable tiles and projects
As a followup to the Hugin cpfind alternative I've written, I could use some assistance with test images / projects. Three ways to help: Just the Hugin / panotools project ( .pto ) file: Preferably a version just after you did control point detection, and prior to your manual cleanup. This would not...

Is it common for saponite to produce fine needles like that? They must be extremely fragile.

That's a nice photo of a nice sample. Especially in terms of controlling the specular highlights. As for the "spruce goose" rig? No need to apologize for DIY projects that work.

A Hugin cpfind alternative / project cleanup tool for tiling
Hi, This is going to be a saga length blabby post so apologies in advance. Also, to forestall the "But Bob, many other stitching tools do a way better job..." etc. Yes, I am aware. "Thank you, noted!" LOL Now let me now tell you about how I reinvented the wheel... Lets confront the enemy, repeated f...
