Sure. Light your subject from steep angle - like 90 degrees. And make sure your light wont reach the lens.

I often see LWD condensers in upright metalurgical microscopes. Some samples are quite high, and you might want to observe upper part of it. Thanks to LWD design you can focus your light properly. In case of thick opaque samples, you might want to do measurments with backlight, and properly focused ...

Photo 1 and 2 does not look like you use phase annuli. Are you sure? If so, i dont know what might be your problem. It's been years since i've got rid of mine PHZ kit, but IIRC it did covered APS-C sensor just fine. BTW: I have exact same problem with Nikon 4x PHL objective and concluded that it's j...

Are you using K3-PHZ polarizer? It looks like the one from KPI2 but it's not.

For a test, instea of using polarizer, use aperture diaphragm to obscure outer ring and see what happens.

Apart from the serviceing issues (cacked lubricant), the mechanical quality of these microscopes is very good (not quite as excellent als Leitz or Zeiss West from the same time but certainly better than the small microscopes you get nowadays) I would pick 1Q Jena Micoroscope every time, over sooner...

Indeed i have.
Also i would sworn my post was written differently than it looks now. Until i figure why my mind is playing tricks on me, i'll refrain from further discussion.

Im not sure what you mean. You want to futher diffuse BD light path? Or transform it into typical macro-rig side lighting? If 2nd is the case, i can freely use a ping-pong / diffusion sheet with some Jansjo lamps. WD's are quite manageable, not a mitutoyo, but not too shabby. But i think i also have...

Answers in order:
-Sample wasnt prepared, it's just cutted on microtome.
-Sure, cube was V-1A, my personal fav. 90% time image looks better than with UV.
-All of them are same image. 2nd and 3rd are just crops from 1st
