Re: Microtome Blade Sharpening
When I worked in an Electron Microscope lab, I made glass knives by splitting, and cut extremely well. When I later was at another EM lab they used diamond knives and I never was able to cut as well. Lots more trouble.

using Nikon BE Plan 4x on SLR lens
Lucky I found I had saved the site in my favorites, as when I tried to find on google, it must be buried pages as I couldn't find. I learned some things here years ago but haven't tried again for years. I know I had used the plan B 4x somehow. I found it and a 62-52 adaptor it screws into. But the a...

Oh brother. I spent the day on this one beetle and then prepared my post with several images, and then it said the website timed out and I lost everything, as it wouldn't reload. Then the network device wasn't lighting and a replacement didn't either, though it did on my laptop. Then I tried to shut...

I am wondering if it has something to do with the small size of the beetle compared with the size of the pin. Every time I try one about this size, I have bad results. Even trying my method of just shooting a single at high aperture, I don't get a image comparable to what I usually do. Perhaps the p...

Still waiting for the last series to finish downloading. Nikon tech first told me (incorrectly) that there program doesn't preview) I got a trial ControlmyNikon and its comparison chart showed many more capabilities than Nikon Camera Control. I had to email tech support because so many things in the...

The motion I am concerned about is the camera shake. When I look through the viewfinder after each shot, there is a vibration that takes several seconds to stop. I am concerned that if the flash fires during the vibration, the lens may not be in the exact same position (besides forward) when it fire...

Yes can be moved. Yes the images got reversed because for some reason I kept getting a message that the first was too large., even though it was only ~300KB. I had loaded ones before that were about 1Mb, so I don't know why, I was changing the name in the save and made it even smaller and then it fi...

The previous 2 images were the same stack, just p& D methods in Zerene. Here are 2 area crops of the better, first image. http://www.photomacrography.net/forum/userpix/3832_201401161608_crop2_1.jpg http://www.photomacrography.net/forum/userpix/3832_20140116crop1_1.jpg I was having trouble with the 2...

Today I tried another Galerita species and its head. 200mm macro w/4X objective, F11 1/250. 'field was ~6mm. Used139 steps of about .03mm. 2 Zerene methods. I first thought they looked very good but noticed artifacts such as contour maps and some other unclear areas when I looked at higher mag. Atta...

The day started out badly., Yesterday, I had glued a piece of styrofaom to a little plate that slid into a mount with a click to lock in place, and this mount had a knob to do some positioning. Much better than my previous method of just pushing the styrofoam which was attached to nothing. So I got ...

I see that it does appear to be some kind of goniometer following the suggestion to search the web. What seems strange is that the 2 long arms are connected. Moving one adjustment makes one slide by the other and they cross, but can't be spread apart. Years ago, the 200mm lens pitched forward on a b...

Well, that was a nice final compliment, though exaggerated, as I hope to work towards the outstanding quality of your studio shots. I did have one cover on that cover page link of a Horse Fly face, and this could be much sharper as a studio stack, but this fly could have just flown away. I do hope f...

I am using a Nikon 200mm F4 AF ED-IF macro lens. Although I didn't crop the 2nd ruler test, the automatic galley macro reduces the size, of course. Can I put up a gallery of full size uncropped tiffs? I did the butterfly at about 45 degree angle and looked at the uncropped tiffs in CS6 Bridge at var...
