Re: SEM of polymer microspheres deposited on skin
... Absolutely! Let's team up. I bring the mosquitos, the SEM and the knife. You bring the hand. I don't have any anaesthetic, but I am sure you we can do without. Let's hope we don't need 12 quarter sized pieces before we get the killer shot. I promise to be gentle with the knife and not cut too d...

Re: SEM of polymer microspheres deposited on skin
Interesting image with nano particles almost. I noticed you used tape to transfer the particles from the skin to the tape. That reminded me of another story. Not sure if you are familiar with the Swedish photographer Lennart Nilsson who made a few very published SEM images back in the 80s (National...

Re: Diatoms - Coscinodiscus marginatus and Eupyxidicula sp.
Yes, you are correct. SEM can give shadows, but not for these two samples due to the angle I used. Also the color is false of course as they need to be converted from black&white to color in photoshop. You could more think of these as paintings really. It is a different workflow than light microscop...

Diatoms - Coscinodiscus marginatus and Eupyxidicula sp.
Diatoms, coloured scanning electron micrograph (SEM). Coscinodiscus marginatus (left) and Eupyxidicula sp. (right). Collected from Newport Beach (fossil) in California, USA. Magnification: x600 when printed 10 centimetres wide. https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/53625877311_66d4b20172_k.jpg Diatoms...

Re: Diatoms - Didysmophenia geminata and Gomphonema sp.
Looks very similar to my first image, so seems reasonable.
Smokedaddy wrote: ↑Fri Mar 22, 2024 1:12 pmNot trying to steal the thread, but is this a Didymosphenia geminata as I have it labeled?

Re: Diatoms - Didysmophenia geminata and Gomphonema sp.
Thanks Beats, I am glad the images can be useful in interpreting light micrographs. Spectacular, as always. These images are very useful in helping "interpret" what I see optically too. The inside/outside differences in Didymosphenia (aka Rock Snot) are near impossible to separate with transmitted i...

SOLD: Zeiss DIC/Phase/Fluorescence microscope
Selling a Zeiss Jena Sedival inverted microscope. Very complete with DIC, Phase contrast and fluorescence. Very good condition overall. Many parts in wooden boxes. I included a few DIC micrographs of diatoms so you can see the optics in action. Full resolution images of the diatoms and equipment can...
