Re: Resolving power / NA / diffraction limit / sensor resolution
How does one calculate what the effective resolution of a lens is (in megapixels)? In other words: when does it no longer make sense to add more pixels? How does the resolving power (in micrometers) correlate to the sensor resolution that can resolve that power? For example, the Mitutoyo HR 10x NA ...

8000ED Scanner lens mounting idea
I'm busy working on my (new) setup(s) for some optics, including the Nikon Coolscan 8000ED scanner lens. On closeupphotography.com are instructions on how to mount and use that lens. In those instructions it is suggested to epoxy-glue the Thorlabs SM2 threaded sleeves onto the lens. Personally I don...

Thanks for sending me the files nielsgeode! Re: Choice of processor
For what it's worth: I have tested Zerene Stacker's speed for a PMax stack with the same set of 200 images 24MP each on different Ryzen CPUs: Ryzen 2700x: 6min16s Ryzen 3900x: 5min42s Ryzen 3950x: 4min54s I'm not sure, but I would expect that the contents of the images does not affect rendering time...

I think so, although I have no experience with this lens. I just know it exists.dolmadis wrote: ↑Mon Oct 26, 2020 2:25 amIs this the GoPro macro lens?

Re: MJKZZ Extreme system and ...
Hello Nice but very expensiv..1500€ jpierre the mjkzz or stonemaster system? In any case I can guarantee you that the German system is very well designed and completely made by hand by someone who is incredibly skilled. I have the system and it's absolutely amazing. Or maybe I shouldn't spread this...

Re: Looking for a compact, rugged camera
Looking for a compact, rugged camera with good macro and low light capability. Any recommendations? Don't want it to be so expensive I have to cry myself to sleep if something happens to it. Will be carried on off road motorcycle trips through rugged terrain. I'm looking at Olympus TG-6. Any other ...

Re: MJKZZ Extreme system and ...
Curious if anyone is using the MJKZZ Extreme system and if so, with what magnification(s). I'd like to hear any comments or thoughts about the system especially if it's being used with 50x or higher. Better get the stonemaster rail. It's the best rail I've ever seen and you can easily and without a...

Re: Thorlabs SM2 tubes flocking? (+ other question)
if you want variable macro in the 0.2 to 0.7 range then a lens with native mount and focus mechanism is certainly more convenient then a thorlabs setup where you have to add spacer rings every time you want to change magnification. personally I'd just get a tripod collar slightly bigger and use a r...

Thorlabs SM2 tubes flocking? (+ other question)
My new Thorlabs SM2-based setup(s) are (finally) getting finished. Stacking is not my primary goal and instead my setup is a tool to take good and beautiful pictures of the specimens of my mineral collection. For around 1x mag. I use an 8000ED scanner lens. For 2x I have a Dimage 5400 lens. For 4x I...

Re: adjusting ITL200 in SM2A20 adapter
You would need a M38x0.5 retaining ring, hope you got one. Thorlab's spanner wrench is the best I've used, for precision, but it's not the most rigid. A friend makes very rigid ones which I also use. The ebay stuff are bad. You can just use a slotted "00" screwdriver for the retaining rings. Cover ...

adjusting ITL200 in SM2A20 adapter
Today my partial Thorlabs shipment arrived How do you mount / adjust the ITL200 tubelens inside the SM2A20 adapter? Thorlabs has the adjustable spanner wrench SPW801, but it's expensive and I wonder if there is a more economical alternative?

Re: Thorlabs ITL200 adapters help needed
It's all good, thanks for the offer! I'm a pain in the bottom snob when it comes to these things. I must set everything up and verify it with reproducible results before posting. I don't see myself as a scientific, but I do want to be as consistent as humanly possible within my budget. I can always...

Re: Thorlabs ITL200 adapters help needed
To avoid me spewing another wall out, I'll be brief. Q: calculations A: I haven't looked carefully, they they are very similar to my own, so I assume it's correct. You are either 0.7mm above or 0.3mm short of getting the perfect distanct However, practically this can change. You should focus the TL...
