Thanks Ichthyophthirius (and that is not easy to pronounce), My intention was to mount on a bellows or infinity focused lens (Sigma 150mm macro). I don't have a microscope though I would like one. I will certainly post how I get on though this will not be for some time. I guess I can use software to...

Thanks to both responders. I guess the moral here is "act in haste repent at leisure" Not sure these will perform as hoped if they need these 'compensating' eyepieces. However thanks for the information as I could discover nothing. Does anyone know what the iris was for and if that is any use in sta...

I now have received these objectives. Three have irises. I hope the images can serve so that an expert in here can shed some light on these and if they are useful or useless to me? In anticipation - Thanks! http://www.photomacrography.net/forum/userpix/2586_Plan_Optics1_2.jpg http://www.photomacrogr...

A funny thing .......

I hope other beginners don't do the same as I and put themselves in the freezer for thirty minutes instead of their specimens.....

The result was I moved very slowly and the insects moved like greased lightning ........... a real disaster

Nikon PLAN objectives with irises

Does anyone know if Nikon Plan objectives (two with irises) have any practical use in photomicrography? I must have had an itchy trigger finger and bought a set of PLAN 1.2, 2, 3 and 4 objectives off eBay. I am set-up for both infinity and 210mm tube usage but know very little about them? Any respon...

I have a Nikon D610 (having returned a D600) and it is a fabulous camera and ideally suited to macro. landscape and architecture (with perspective lenses?). I agree with the other respondent who recommends a Nikon D800 (or preferably a D800E). Even if you "dont need" 36 megapixels you will benefit f...

Fabulous Images

Fabulous images. Great colours, sharpness and detail.

The bee does look as dead as a dodo in some and draped over a leaf? Is that the case?

Chris, I experienced exactly the same situation with the same adapter around six weeks ago. Mine also appeared nicely made but threaded only part way (from either side). I complained to the eBay seller and they quickly replaced it with another that threaded on fully and smoothly. They allowed me to ...

Are you sure (given that all legs are holding prey item and not the surface) that a simple gust of wind has not lifted it onto its back?

My Nikon D7000 has sensor cleaning builtin also and I have this set in the menu options to execute on start-up and shut-down (probably over-kill?) but this did not effect the grease spots that unlike the dust tended to be larger and blacker and stick. Only swabs and cleaner (for grease) seemed to do...

Welcome to what is both a friendly and professional forum. On the Canon MPE, although I am a Nikon user myself I feel as you are new to digital photography and macro that you might be far better off (at the beginning) with the fantastic Canon EF 100mm f2.8L see review at http://www.dpreview.com/lens...

The D7000s (including mine) came with a fault that Nikon never owned up to. Something in the mirror/shutter mechanism constantly threw dirty grease spots all over the sensor. I believe after many reported this that Nikon fixed it for later manufactured D7000's but still charged existing users for a ...

Guess?

First guess: Without a hint its almost impossible to guess but perhaps engage the use of some other insect or animal to symbiotically help? stinging/web etc? Second guess: Use a thorny bush to impale to allow a more leisurely meal? Third guess: Carry it into water to drown it/reduce struggles? regar...
