Years ago in school we made killing jars with cyanide but now I use polish remover and it does a good job. This hornet was killed using wasp and hornet killer spray on paper towels in the jar. Works very fast.

Hornet
Here is one of four hornets that was in my garage this weekend. They were very angry being stuck in there. You can see by the damage to this one's eye that she has had a rough life. This is 45 shots with a reversed Nikon 50 EL lens on bellows and a Canon T1i camera. Stacked in Photoshop. Lights were...

Six pointed spider
I found this spider this past weekend when I was down near the river. I have never seen one with a hard shell like a crab. Nikon EL 50

WolfSpider shot
Here are 270 photos stacked in Photoshop CS5. Taken with a Nikon EL 50mm reversed on a bellows connected to a Canon T1i. Lit with two IKEA LED lights. This spider had been in the freezer for a while but still looks great. She was attempting to enter my garage when I spotted her. http://www.photomacr...

I was able to photograph some moths today that always flew off as soon as they saw I was looking at them. I guess all animals/insects have a system that alerts them when "eyes" are directed at them. Today I was up close with the moths. They did not care I was there. I wonder if a face mask that bloc...

Leatherback biting fly
That is what I will call it. Have no clue as to its real name. It was a test subject for my new procedure using a sheet of poster board to hide my profile as I approached the insect. This was outlined in the "how to sneak up on a dragonfly" posting. It flew off as soon as I removed the poster board ...

How to sneak up on a dragonfly
I have had troubles approaching dragonflies with my camera. They would always take off if I got too close. Working with my 100mm macro on an extension required me to be much closer than they wanted me to be. I was thinking that my face/shape was alerting them. So I took a piece of poster board and p...

Some tries at handheld shots in backyard
I decided to try taking some handheld shots with the Canon 100mm connected to a 31mm extension ring and a Canon 1D M III. All were taken in natural light. Most shots were only 5 or so shots before the insect flew away. Don't know what type of fly this is but it did not like me around. I have not see...

This spider almost got me.
As many of you know I am afraid of spiders. Going to work Monday morning at 4am when it is still dark, I walk out of the back door to go to my car. I run full face into a BIG spider web. It is almost like the scene in the movie Lord of the Rings! Out of the corner of my eye I see the spider that set...

Other Software to control StackShot
Just checking to see if there has been any change in available software to control the StackShot other than the two programs. I have used Zerene to control the StackShot. I also tried Helicon but it did not work with the Stackshot controller. All I need is a simple compter interface to run the SS co...

Cow Killer
This is known as the Cow killer because the sting is strong enough to kill a cow. But it is really a red wingless wasp. This one was running across my back yard when I saw it. It was very fast. I did not want to kill it to take a stack. I released it after taking a few shots. http://www.photomacrogr...
