Re: Macro rail assembly

I agree that the THK20 rails are great, MJKKZ uses them for some of their rails too. One thing to keep in mind, there are a lot of versions and they also have different pitches so one has to be careful not to pick the wrong one. The ones ending in A have one block, the ones ending in B have two blo...

Re: High-end Line Scan Lens vs High-end HR Objectives

What kind of non-linescan camera could even take advantage of it? Hassy, Fuji, or Pentax digital medium format have images circles of about 80mm, so that would be a good match. The issue is resolution, the lens would likely "out resolve" the sensor on these cameras. The Fiji also offers a multi-sho...

Thanks for posting this, Lou.

Great ideas, and evidence for my wife demonstrating that my studio isn’t *that* untidy.

Re: Step one for stiff rack and pinion?

I decided to bail on taking the mechanism apart, since the axis wasn’t *that* stiff. I decided to just clean the bearing tracks, using TriFlow, microfiber, and a bamboo skewer, which worked well.

Re: Step one for stiff rack and pinion?

I think I will take the opportunity to learn.

Is an adjustable spanner wrench the right tool for the next stage? (Nut put back for safety)

If so, what are the good ones? The Thorlabs unit looks pretty good.

Re: Step one for stiff rack and pinion?

Waiting on the TriFlow, but designed and printed a wrench in the meantime.

Re: Step one for stiff rack and pinion?

Thank you, Pete.

On this stage, the inner knob seems good, the outer is the stiff one.

Are you aware of a parts diagram, or should I just go slowly?

Step one for stiff rack and pinion?

Hello,

I got an Nikon XY stage and one of the axes is stiff. The unit seems clean, without heavy use, so what is the first step to take to smooth out the motion?

TIA

(admin note: Link not working fixed)

With 10mm pitch it doesn't seem very useful for focus stacking, maybe meant for fast positioning.
I guess it depends on magnification, but yes, more useful for positioning.

Amazing Deal on 2 “New” 10mm Pitch NSK Rails

No affiliation, and it pains me not to get them myself, but I am pretty railed-up. At $50 each, this is, literally, 97% off catalog price of 1,689 euro. If you get them please post or send me a PM. Re: New Stainless Nippon Bearing Slides w 2 Blocks $12 each

You’re welcome!

I have two Nippon Bearing linear actuators that are a bit nicer than the THK KR and Misumi equivalents.
