Re: Scales thread
Hello Macrero, Very nice photo! But the resolution of your previous photos without the glued-in cover glass was much higher. Best, ADi Hi Adi, I haven't performed direct comparisons with vs without coverslip (with refocusing), but I think resolution is about the same. The advantage of the coverslip...

Re: Scales thread
I can confirm Lothar's coversips + Musou black works very well.
Here is another C. rhipheus scales stack with the NPA20 + 135mm tube lens at 13.5X on sensor:

Re: small black point on the wall
Nice little critter, very well photographed.
Those scales look very interesting at high mag indeed.

Re: Rear lens + Lomo 3.7
*sigh* don't make me want to buy that lens. {-( I don't know the U10 but I suspect the initial long working distance also comes into play, as some microscope lenses simply can't be used in a stacked configuration due to the WD bring very small to begin with - and with stacking it gets even worse. I...

Re: Rear lens + Lomo 3.7
Oh yeah though it's not too dissimilar. The problem with most finite microscope lenses is that their lens arrays are at the very front of the barrel, creating quite a lot of space between their rear lens and the tube lens surface. The Lomo 3,7x has its rear element at the very back, I think that's ...

Re: Rear lens + Lomo 3.7
I've actually observed that behaviour with a lot of lenses, reversed enlarger lenses combined with tube lenses can yield surprisingly good results I was referring to finite microscope objectives , the vast majority of which does not work well with a rear lens, the Lomo 3.7X and the Nikon U10 being ...

Re: Rear lens + Lomo 3.7
I don't currently own a FF camera, but I've used a Lomo 3.7X in stacked configuration with the S1R, and there was no problem with coverage, rather the opposite. The Lomo is a pretty unique objective in that sense. The only finite objective with similar behaviour in stacked setups I've tested is the ...

Re: Will we ever have a "perfect" stacking software?
I've had my share of stacks like the one shown. When I get them, I generally change the lighting; if I can get light from a broader range of angles onto the parts of the subject that "swirl" in the stacks, the swirling tends to go away. So might we question not the software, here, but the lighting?...

Re: Will we ever have a "perfect" stacking software?
Thanks for sharing your point of view, Rik. I was interested in your opinion.
Well, no other option but to stick with what we have. I guess just like with hardware, you have to know its limitations and try to counteract them (when possible...).

Re: Will we ever have a "perfect" stacking software?
Hello Macrero, I am aware of the problem. In such cases I make substacks and retouch with Zerene. I usually make the substacks with PMax and on the basis of the substacks I make a stack with PMax and DMap. Then I start retouching with DMap, paint over with PMax and then the affected areas with the ...

Re: Will we ever have a "perfect" stacking software?
Thank you, guys, for shattering my hopes  :P I'd not mind to pay more for such an improvement (if possible), though not as much as 5 figures :D There's certainly a lot to be improved, but I honestly have no much clue about this kind of software and I don't know how viable those improvements ar...

Will we ever have a "perfect" stacking software?
This post is not a complaint, rather the result of frustration :( At low magnifications the software does a decent job, and after retouching you get good results. Now, at high magnifications, especially working with high NA optics, it's really frustrating. I can't count the apparently good, well com...

Re: Exactly how fragile are the mitutoyo 10x 20x etc, or is it an enigma?
Note that I edited the "I'm sure" with "I hope"... Of course, I cannot be sure it will be okay, but there is a higher chance it will be, so get your hopes up :P I doubt anyone could answer the "how big impact is too big for a Mitty'" question. It certainly won't survive a serious (or not that seriou...

Re: Exactly how fragile are the mitutoyo 10x 20x etc, or is it an enigma?
I did purchase one at a good price that was hard to pass up, and yeah, with the generous return policy to boot on the advice I've read here. I fully expect it to arrive in unusable condition, based on the experiences I've read here saying like 60%+ of used ones people have purchased had to be retur...
