Re: Sternotomis virescens (F)

I remember reading that. Luckily it is indeed built like a tank and survived. Now I am in search of a good lens/es for the 1-3.5X range. The ones I use on MFT and APS does not cover the FF sensor. Still have some combos pending tests though. I am planning to shoot "exotic" coleoptera this winter, an...

Re: Sternotomis virescens (F)

So you are happy with the camera? No reason not to be. I love the build quality, probably the best-built digital camera I've owned. The 47MP files are great, the 187MP pixel-shifted ones are astounding, though my oldish workstation is not as happy with them as I am, but processes them without moani...

Re: two bargains

Hi Adi, lighting on these scales do looked very different to me than in previous photos you've shared. Maybe in order to avoid shooting at several seconds exposure time you have used a weak diffuser? While not optimal, LED lighting at high-mag's is viable if your setup is sturdy and you use powerful...

Re: two bargains

Nice high-mag stacks. Flashes are certainly helping, with my continuous light rig it is quite more complicated. Light is a tad hard to me, but detail is excellent, though maybe a little oversharpened.

Best,

Re: Aliens among us

Very clean and with good detail. Looks like a flash(es) has been used. Lighting is a tad on the harsh side.

Re: Disastrous 100x oil immersion objective comparison

Hi, I'm thinking about the opposite-colour fringing. Blue on one side, red on the other. That shouldn't be the case in the CENTRE, only in the corners. In the centre, there should be no fringing or fringing should be the same on either side of the line. I think this indicates that the objective is ...

Re: Disastrous 100x oil immersion objective comparison

Hi, I'm not sure what to make of this. How can there be colour finging in the centre with the UPlanFL? If the Plan N has fringes like this in the centre and in focus, it is likely defective. Could there be oil inside (not uncommon for the Plan Ns)? I don't have it myself but maybe someone could pos...

Re: 24MP "only" FF camera with Pixel-Shift

Congratulations, and if I can help you with it, just let me know. Thanks in advance! I will most likely need your help. I believe you do own some very high power objectives, which you also push down for aps-c. I've read some threads and loved the results. In that case, I do think the 47MP S1R will ...

Re: 24MP "only" FF camera with Pixel-Shift

Macrero, even I think that my description of the modification process is confusing. I swear it seemed clear when I wrote it. If you have trouble, when you get the parts I can open my adapter and post a photo. Thank you, Lou. I will get back to you for help if I am unable to get it right. But I prom...

Re: 24MP "only" FF camera with Pixel-Shift

Lou , Thanks for the link. Tbh, I don't quite get the process, but I'll try to sort it out when I have the camera. Interesting review indeed. I am still doubting if the R with pixel-shift would not be an overkill for my needs though. The S1's 96MP pixel-shifted files are more than I need resolution...

Re: 24MP "only" FF camera with Pixel-Shift

Prices in Europe are always higher  You can still find a S1R (used) body for less than 2000 EUR though. The S1 is selling used at around 1700 - 1800 :? I can get it brand-new for 1599 on the grey market. Anyway, current difference in prices is not large enough to be a factor. I don't think the...

Re: 24MP "only" FF camera with Pixel-Shift

Lou, the thing is I would use it in normal mode for tests and comparisons only and in HR for "serious" work, as I do with the G9. That's why I wonder if it's worth it getting a S1R instead of S1, considering that I work mostly at 4X+ mag's and I will end up downsampling the S1R files to about 100MP,...

24MP "only" FF camera with Pixel-Shift

So, I am planning to get a FF camera with Pixel Shift. I'm trying to decide between the Panny S1R and the S1. Their prices on the second-hand market are surprisingly close, but price is not the only factor to consider. My "problem" with the "R" is the enormous RAW and tiff files. Processing pixel sh...
