Re: Panasonic 45-175 mm as tube lens / focus bracketing

Quick question on your setting up "1100 minimal AF steps" is this same as "# of shots in focus bracketing ?" and at what focus differential ? i.e. <3 vs. > 9, maximum 10. My OM DEM1-III allows maximum of 999 shots in focus bracketing and focus differential 1-10. And not clear on ~230mkm mean, these...

Re: Panasonic 45-175 mm as tube lens / focus bracketing

I own this lens (45-175). Pros: AF stackings works perfect and is ultra-fast. Here is also some of my test data that may be helpful: The full distance of focus travel (from closest to infinity) with 45-175 set to ~125mm, with different objectives put on is: Mitu 5x 0.14: ~2300 mkm Mitu 10x 0.28: ~9...

Re: Lens recomendation for film reproduction

But testing lenses is fun and in my spare time I often do that... I used to just grab some lens and try to take a picture of what I have in mind, and often it did not work out... Decided more theory is needed, have to know how this stuff work... I read a book from Sun Tzu many years ago and among o...

Re: Lens recomendation for film reproduction

As I said above, I don't understand the desire to insert a bellows. Dedicated macro lenses are not intended to be used with bellows. They do all sorts of weird things like changing focal length, adjusting lens positions for optimum performance, etc, and none of these things will work correctly with...

Re: Lens recomendation for film reproduction

. https://www.photonstophotos.net/GeneralTopics/Lenses/OpticalBench/OpticalBench.htm#Data/US005751485_Example01P.txt [/list] Your math "effective magnification = 36 mm / 35.5 mm = 1:1,14" seems incorrect a bit, should be 1:1.014 I think...error happens... 35.9/35.5 is 1.011 and this is even closer ...

Re: Lens recomendation for film reproduction

Both have similar resolution to my eye ! maybe you forgot your glasses -:) a joke... but these images are so different... resolution for DSC_1709a.JPG is a lot better, like using different lens... Yes, I was joking...resolution was much better without bellows even at 100% !!. but no difference in t...

Re: Lens recomendation for film reproduction

Thanks for the setup, but on theory the 60mm macro with floating elements should perform better at 1:1 when mounted via Nikon-F adapter to you camera. You will achieve the same magnification mounted on the bellows, but do you achieve the same resolution? Hi Iothman, Shot lymph node biopsy H&E secti...

Re: Lens recomendation for film reproduction

Will be back in town in the later part of next week (attending annual pathology conference in Baltimore, MD). I will re-run same test using my old Micro Nikkor 55 mm and again 60 mm Nikkor lens at 5.6 and 8.0 and post some images... Enjoy your conference! I expect that a snapshot of your setup woul...

Re: Lens recomendation for film reproduction

I can read that as saying that the Nikkor 60 mm lens was set on infinity focus ("minimal extension"), in which case the results make perfect sense. After the clarification I respectfully disagree... that it makes perfect sense... I agree with your disagreement. I had casually assumed that "minimal ...

Re: Lens recomendation for film reproduction

Really interested how you are getting different results, in both cases (with and without extension) so close to 1:1... lens is not inside the bellows, adapter is regular and you insist lens in both situation is at 1:1... either something is wrong with 1 of the tests or I am missing something? Hi Bo...

Re: Lens recomendation for film reproduction

60 mm Nikkor with PB-4 bellows; Nikon_60MM_BellowsPB-4.jpg 60 mm Nikkor without Bellows; Nikon_60MM.jpg Only difference is ~ 500 microns short with Bellows vs. Macro lens mounted to camera, very close to 1:1 mag. Nikon Z6II flange to sensor is 16.00 mm vs. on Nikon DSLR (D850) is 46.5mm..... Really...

Re: Lens recomendation for film reproduction

Hi Lou, I was unaware of issue you raised, in the past I have used macro lenses (Nikon and OM Zuiko) with bellows and extension tubes without any problem. See the more detailed write-up on the usage of bellows with Nikkor-D 60 MM 2.8 lens.... https://www.photoartfromscience.com/single-post/using-th...

Re: Lens recomendation for film reproduction

Well, Sigma got 55mm macro lens with M42 mount - old (XQ line), somewhat rare, nothing special optically. Any special need requiring M42? For something cheap and shareable with other people I would go with Nikon 55/2.8 (AI-S or AF) or even better 60/2.8 D, both lenses can be found in the $50-100 ra...
