Re: Olympus fluorescense queries
....1. Are any LED lamphouses available for fluorescence work, which can be fitted onto the Olympus BX-RFA fluorescence unit?... Des, have you tried to use the normal (diascopic) lamphouse on the BX-RFA? On the BX50 I can easily exchange the episcopic lamphouse with mercury lamp for the halogen lam...

....Like ChrisR, I take it that you have to change the distance between tube lens and camera in order to increase the working distance of the 2x lens?... Sorry, I forgot to answer the question  Yes, you have to decrease the distance between sensor and tube lens to come into focus when w.d. to...

.. What "tube" lens are you using?.. Hi other Chris and Chris, I observed this when playing around with an optical reducer that has been made for apochromatic refractors. The 2x is different from the other Mitutoyos - it behaves very sensitive to any changes in the setup (distances/tube lens). Init...

....The short answer is that the 2x Mitty differs from the 5x and 10x Mitty's primarily in exhibiting lateral (not axial) chromatic aberration, which I find to be easily correctable in Nikon Capture NX2.... Chris, the 2x is also very sensitive to variations in working distance. If your equipment al...

Re: OLYMPUS BX40 microscope good deal??
....So, is this a good deal? EC, on the pictures the trinocular-tube looks big - this could be the super-widefield tube which accepts the F.N. 26,5mm eyepieces. You should ask the seller which kind of eyepieces it has (usally 22 or 26,5) and to take look at the underside of the trinocular-tube - th...

Des, I have an adapter that fits directly to the USWTR without the dovetail adapter. This solution is very solid and vibration-free. It has 2" inner diameter so that many astronomical components (as Charles has mentioned) can be used with it. Also the camera can be rotated easily. However, because I...

Re: Reduced NA gives more detail
.... A confocal microscope excludes stray light with a pinhole at the sensor. We can't do that but we could reduce the light coming from unfocused parts by not illuminating them. This could be done above (“Epi”), or subject-side of the objective. But they’re both a little fiddly so I’ll leave them ...

Christian, if you are starting from the ground, maybe it's better to begin at the object side (field size), then think about the "best"lenses for a given application (nA/resolution, image circle/correcti...

It seems that the SD15 could be a good choice for photomacrography ... As an alternative, especially with the Mitutoyo-lenses, the Sigma SD1 looks very promising. Now with 15 MP x3 layers and a sensor diagonal of ca.29mm - should fit very well. But is not available yet. http://www.sigma-sd.com/SD1/...

is it "worth" having a 2x in the armoury, from the field of view perspective? ... Hi Chris, if largest field of view is the primary goal I would tend to answer "no", there are other ways to get more (but not with LWD Mitutoyos). Some experiments with alternative tube lenses didn't show improved fie...

... Yes, I think maybe I see what you mean. But the effect is subtle enough that I would not notice it by seeing a picture in isolation... It is best to compare the images from the 20x lens, because both cameras are in high oversampling mode with this lens and the difference resulting from sensor-r...

... ...II) If you have a Mitutoyo 10x and are looking to buy a camera body to go with it, then choosing a D700 would be a waste of glass. Not exactly.
