I finally got the stuff from UPS. I'm very disapointed in the giottos things. The quick release was heavier than the ballhead! The 'fluid' ballhead felt like it had sand in it even brand new, but that's not a deal breaker. however, when i tighten the pan lock, the entire ballhead above it tilts and ...

then you could use a desk lamp or some other source of light to have a nice bright light through the eyepeice.

Just don't look in!

hrm....yes... I you've tried focus at infinity with it zoomed in (out? hrm... Telephoto - not wide angle) as much optically, then you are going to have this issue. It's mainly due to the fact that the lens is larger than the eyepiece of the scope. The lens should not be touching the scope tho. The l...

I like the concept of a Benbo, but i wouldn't carry one with me most of the time. The smaller of the line, the Benbo Trekker Mk2 Tripod is 4.5 lbs and 'folds' to be just half of it's 60" maximum length. If i were made of money, i'd love to have one to play with on local outings, but i had saved the ...

First Pics/ First bees

So i just got the 350 on Monday and I went out and snapped a few hundred frames. Yeah...wish i was kidding. Post-processing sucks. 600 frames since monday...sheesh. I need to learn to cut back on that. Anyway...i think this camera is bee-autiful! (groan) Pardon the lack of sharpness as i was using t...

Any time that you use a camera to take a picture through a microscope, you need to make sure that it's aligned properly (inline with the microscope's optical axis) and that it's the correct distance from the microscope objective. Try reading this 'paper' by Charles Krebs. The introduction goes over ...

I ended up purchasing a Slik 614 (1.9lb - $230), and a Giottos MH-1002 (8oz - $60) Ballhead with independent pan and head controls and a Giottos 621 quick release (? - $29) which will come in handy with the macro shots. It's not the lightest combination that is possible, but once I discard much of t...

hrm....i've heard of the infamous 1028, but that's all. The current model seems to be the Gitzo G-1057 at 1.5 lbs and $335. It's really short with no column at 36" though. Or the Gitzo G-1058 at 1.7 lb and $380 which will rise to 43" without column. 6" shorter for a 1/4 lb difference... I forgot tha...

Travlin' Tripods

K...so this is a tad off topic, but i trust your alls opinion, so i come to you. I need a tripod/ballhead for (for macro and otherwise) and I do lots of hiking as well. So if i'm able to only buy one pod/head, i'd like it to be one i'd take hiking. I'm a ultralight hiker and while i don't mind luggi...

It's hard for me to claim how slow, because i realize that i was expecting too much from the XT Buffer. I assumed it was the cards fault i could only take 3 pics in burst mode, but in fact it was the RAW+JPEG format in which i shoot I've never used a CF card, so I don't have anything to compare it a...

It's here! I'll admit, I was a bit worried to get a refurbished camera, especially when they are selling for the same prices as used ones. I'd seen horror stories online about some problems with them, but so far, I like what i see. Unfortunately I left the transfer cable in the lab, so no images to ...

Raw Converters

Does anyone here use Adobe Photoshop Lightroom for postprocessing their raw files? I saw a demonstration of it and it looks very capable for most things a photographer would like to do to a image as a whole. I was impressed with it. It simplifies keywords and tags, and uses a database to organize yo...

Well...i bit the bullet and just finished paying for a Refurbished Canon XT with lens for $450. I here the lens is terrible, but for $50 more than the body alone, how could I not? As seen here http://www.adorama.com/ICADRXTBKR.html Since I already have over 6 gigs of SD memory, I purchased a SD to C...
