Re: Horsing around with EF 400mm DO II

Lou: you are right, this forum is a knowledgeable crowd. At other places on the internet the standard assumption does seem to be to use the reversed lens wide open. Anyway, when sharing experiences of horsing around with optics it is nice to see the details. JKT: I would give the +2 and +3 lenses of...

Re: Horsing around with EF 400mm DO II

This is just a quick note of some tests I did with EF 400mm DO II as tube lens. Taking lens: Raynox DCR-5320 Pro - horrible. Overall I'd call the look dreamy. There may be some reflections from the setup, but I don't think that can explain the results. So using the close-up lens as intended is a ba...

6. Figure out how to reliably do UV illumination What do you want to achieve? UV illumination is relatively easy, there are led lights with light in different parts of the UV spectrum. If you are after UV fluorescence, illuminate the subject with roughly the correct wavelength and photograph the re...

Re: Mamiya 140mm macro lens

There are also ridged metal lens boards available with various hole diameters https://www.ebay.de/itm/395027697602 Yes, I have found these boards as well. But.... If you look precisely to details (enlarged pictures) of the corners of the back-side of these boards, you see "circular" irregularities ...

Re: Mamiya 140mm macro lens

Sinar lens board: Did see "flat" metal lens boards as suggested by @dickb , having a hole for Ø 65mm, but looking to boards having some raised edges at the backside, to prevent light leaks attached to the Sinar P2. (Exact hole dimensions - if not available-, can be done by the "hobby workshop"). Th...

Re: Mamiya 140mm macro lens

Some considerations for the S1R to Sinar connection: you can use a Nikon F plate plus L adapter as you mentioned, but this risks vignetting and flare at the more extreme angles, as the tubes connecting the S1R to the plate are fairly deep and narrow. Alternatively you could the S1r directly to the r...

Re: Studio Macro Rig

There are some valuable lenses in this set. Assuming great condition (glass without scratches, haze or fungus) these are a few prices they sold for on ebay in USD: - Leica 60mm f2.8 Macro Elmarit 400 to 800 - Leica 100mm f2.8 Apo Macro Elmarit 900 to 1700 - Leica Elpro 1:2 to 1:1 diopter 500 and 800...

Re: Taking the 200mm micro-Nikkor Past Lifesize

Another option to get a higher magnification and maintain a large working distance is to use a teleconverter. IIRC the older 200mm micro Nikkor I used to own came with a 2x teleconverter to get it to 1:1 magnification. Internal focussing and dioptres give you magnification at the cost of focal lengt...

Re: Taking the 200mm micro-Nikkor Past Lifesize

Dunno about using the micro-Nikkor at 2x, my guess would be a combined with a reversed 100mm lens would give great results, I'm replying to say I'm a big fan of your work!! Just a note for those considering reversing lenses onto other lenses, they work in the same way as dioptres do. To compare the...

Re: Bellows for Fuji GFXs ii

I'm weighing up lots of options/variables in the hope that I can get a smallish kit that can give me high quality results, at a reasonable price. Not much to ask, I know! You should be able to get a decent enlarger lens, adapter and either bellows or tubes for not too much money. Bellows are heavie...

Re: Bellows for Fuji GFXs ii

I just came across this Novoflex Auto Bellows for Fuji GFX:

https://www.novoflex.de/en/products-637 ... ug-en.html

Not cheap, but if you have invested in many GFX lenses it may be an interesting option. It is quite compact but lacks movements.

Re: Bellows for Fuji GFXs ii

In your first post you mentioned your preference for a somewhat compact solution. Many affordable 4x5 bellows are quite bulky and heavy. The large size does allow even the largest lenses to be mounted, so if you want to use lenses with a larger mounting diameter than the Mamiya m645 mount then 4x5 h...

Re: TT Artisan tilt-shift 100 mm 2x macro

For more tilt movement I would recommend pick up a Zork MLS for cheap for 20% of tilt. Works great on large image circle lens for more DOF and for OOF isolation. These are known as Zoerkendorfer, Zörkendorfer, Zoerk and Zörk. And Multifokussystem or multi focus system, MFS. The lack of shift makes ...

Re: TT Artisan tilt-shift 100 mm 2x macro

Shift is only 6mm and perpendicular to tilt. The lack of option to change the axis of the shift and tilt is limiting, but many tilt/shift lenses also have that limitation. The MTF graph X axis goes from 0 to 20, i.e. a 40 mm diameter of the image circle, which in itself is not quite enough for full...

Re: SM2 Lens Tube Studio System Update

Dear Robert, sorry for the question that might seem stupid, why don't you screw the arca plate directly to the SM2RC? Thank you. Not Robert here, but the advantage of having the Leofoto clamps is that you can move the SM2RCs freely along the double dovetailed Arca rail, giving you ease of adjustabi...
