Hi Bruce, Is the slider marked? I only ask as I have just checked all three of the phase contrast inverted microscopes we have at work (all Olympus, two CK40 finite scopes and a CKX40 infinity) and all the sliders have one open position (which is useful) and two phase annuli. One is marked 4X and th...

Nikon low mag Plan objectives with irises
Hi, I have just seen these http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/4-Nikon-Microscope-Objectives-3-of-which-have-irises-to-increase-depth-of-field-/281791138536?hash=item419c0f8ae8 and just wondered if anyone knew anything about them, and whether they would be any good for macro work? I have a bellows setup, but ...

Hi Des, I had the same problem at the end of last year. I bought a nice X-cite 120Q with a faulty 3M light guide (it let virtually no light through and the end got extremely hot, very quickly). Your quote of £395 +VAT for the 1.5M is the same as the best one I got. I got a good quote from a company ...

I am sorry that it didn't arrive. I am still in hope that it will be returned to me at some point, but it is not looking very likely at the moment (it has been 51 days since I originally posted it). Congrats! This was the second one I've ever seen being sold on this side of the pond during the last ...

The Canon website does say that the EOS-M has an electronic first shutter, but are there different sorts? I have a Nikon and a Panasonic, but would interested in one of these purely for macro, if it prove suitable. The shame is that these are located in the US and, with postage and pre-paid duty, th...

I had a problem recently with my PC shutting itself down after running for several hours and assumed that this was an overheating CPU problem. I checked inside the case and the CPU heatsink and fan looked clean and was seated correctly, and so I prepared myself for the worse case of having to consid...

I would assume that the Flu designation is for use with fluorescence microscopy, and so would be transparent to UV light as well as visible. It is unlikely to be a barrier to UV light as suggested, as this would stop the light (in the UV range) from any fluoro epi illuminator from reaching the sample.

Hi Danny, Regarding the HR070-CMT that was recommended. I have tried one of these with my BHS and a Panasonic G1 (micro 4/3) and found considerable vignetting. http://www.photomacrography.net/forum/userpix/1144_hr070_1.jpg I also tried the HR100-CMT (1X) and this also displays vignetting with the mi...

Thanks for your response. Its the part you see when you're looking at the bottom dovetail of the head. I have already removed this (from the U-TR30) as a three element group (i.e. one element - spacer - two elements fixed together). If this is the tube lens, would it be all three elements with the s...

Olympus tube lens from BX60 microscope
Hi, I was wondering if anyone knew where the tube/Telan lens for the BX60 microscope is located? I know this might seem an odd question, but I recently managed to get a collection of Olympus parts, including two damaged trinocular heads (a U-TR30 and a U-TR30-2). I appreciate that the tube lens must...

The item is an Olympus BH2-SGRF centering screen for epi-illuminators. see http://www.alanwood.net/downloads/olympus-bh2-rfl-instructions.pdf page 6 for more details As Cactusdave has pointed out, this is to allow the centering of epi lamps, especially mercury burners for fluorescence which can't be...

Hi, the condenser fits perfectly, as do the eyepieces. The objectives are fitted to a 6 way Olympus nosepiece. I just haven't had the chance to test a good sample for phase contrast and wanted to know if this was a good idea, or whether I was wasting my time. I know the CFN objectives are excellent ...
