Bravo Walter ! Well done, you've solved the riddle properly ! :)

It is mixture of polyvinyl alcohol and malic acid which was melted and even almost boiled. These structures are odd tiny air bubbles (these smaller and darker ones) and tiny drops withmicroscopic crystals inside.

I hoped you would think that it is a pencil drawing on old yellowed paper because that's how it looks :)
