Ricoh copy lens

Post by ray_parkhurst »

You may have seen the eBay auction listing for

"Ricoh Scanner Copier SBU Lens Assembly 54976001 As-Is"

The assembly has a BIN of $14.95 with $3.75 shipping (for me anyway, I live close).

I bought one of these assemblies and removed the lens. It is conveniently marked as:

"TOPCON FM 4/34mm"

I have not tested the lens yet, but thought I'd give folks some info that might help them decide to buy or not. The lens I received has some coating issues on the document-facing side. Others may have similar problems. The seller still has >10 available, though it looks like the auction is ending in ~ 1 hour. I would assume it will be relisted.

Edited to add: the diameter of this lens is ~26mm, a bit bigger than the ~24mm of the Nikon 4000ED scanner lens that Raf has made an adapter for. So it will require some different adaption.

This could work with a bit of trimming on the lens barrel.

I double-checked the lens diameter and it is 25.9mm. There are a couple other options for adapting this lens, but all require some modification to open up the 25.5mm opening to 25.9mm:

Some nice quality adapters there. Have you tried mounting the lens into some tubes via say a rubber plug with an opening on it or other similar crude methods, just to see how well it performs? If it's decent, then it would be worth asking Raf to make a dedicated adapter.

I did a quick check by taping the lens and installing in an M27 adapter. Lowest mag I could achieve is 2.26:1, well above the application mag. I tried it both ways, figuring the reverses mounting would be better, but forward was superior in both center and corners. At 2.26:1 it is fairly sharp and there is very little CA in center, but starting to soften and show CA in the corners on APS-C.

That's actually pretty decent, especially for a mere $10. I sent an offer of $10 and seller accepted.

Mine will be coming... I don't know when. After the final exams at least.

The seller now has three offers waiting with a stock of 6 and 9 watchers.

John...I added a few layers of tape on the lens, then threaded into an M27 adapter. Only a temporary solution to check performance...Ray

I read my reply to earlier question and concluded I only read your question, not the quote you were asking question about, so did not answer properly...

The M27 adapter I have is one from Rafcamera. It is M27x0.75 to M42x1, specifically this one:

Hope this is more helpful...Ray
