Hi Gang
Close up detail of a paper wasp nest and enclosed chamber. Makes me
think of the great movie, "Alien", where Ripley is in front of the company
tribunal and says: "Please, you're not listening to me. Cain, the crew
member who went into that ship, said he saw thousands of eggs there."
Well almost anything makes me think of that movie! Classic.
Anyway, I love the intricacy of the construction.
Can any of you specialists explain why the cover to the chamber is silver?
It appears almost foil-like sometimes.

Re: Chambers
It's different material. The cap is made of silk, spun by the larva when it gets ready to turn into a pupa. The rest of the structure is mostly chewed up wood pulp, prepared and formed by the adults. Looks like these caps have some wood pulp stuck on them also.Pizzazz wrote:Can any of you specialists explain why the cover to the chamber is silver?
