Softing

Post by Harald »

Hi there,
My main interest in the macro range is minerals and crystals.
One problem is often glare and unwanted light reflections. There are so many surfaces that reflect light.
I think the key to it all is softing the light.
As an allround photographer, I´m familiar with Lee filters. Awesome quality. They also make filters for studio and film, gels. With 100´s of different gels, they also have filters for diffusion. I´ve tried out the LeeLux (#400)

Using an ring light with 96 LED´s around my Mitu it works like a charm.
This is the ring:

Just sharing my experience with you guys...
Kind Regards

Hi Harald,

I have a horizontal setup and one of the biggest challenges for such a solution seems to be to fix the sheet in a cylindrical shape around the lens and specimen to be photographed.

Can you please share a photo of your setup with the ring and de LeeLux diffusion filter?

Thanks and best regards,
Carlos Magno

Here it is without diffusor and the last one with diffusor.
I´ve just cutted it to size and threaded it around my Mitu...
