Just when you got over the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania givving you the Brown Marmorated Stinkbug in Allentown (just north on the other side of the mountain from me) we now have a new invasive insect from Asia, first ID'd in Bucks County (just south of me) - the Spotted lanternfly (Lycorma delicatula). Ethered on a glass pane on my front door.

Lanternfly in B&W
I wondered what it would look like in a Victorian scientific journal...

Very nice, subtle colours and well presented. The mono actually looks better to me - great range of tones to support B&W presentation. Always a good way to present shape, detail and texture IMO, though I generally reserve it for when colour doesn't add any useful info (doesn't apply here though as we have the colour version too). Neat stuff.

Spotted lanternfly
The next step is to harvest various parts of the insect. I'm looking forward to that pattern at the end of the wing.
The underside of the wing has a very bright red area that you can see through the top.
