Ciliates

Post by Robert Berdan »

I have posted an article with photomicrographs about ciliates on my web site for those that might be interested:
http://www.canadiannaturephotographer.com/ciliates.html - had the assistance of Bruce Taylor to help me identify some of the specimens. A couple of pictures are embedded below.

1. Spirostomum minus (top) and Urocentrum turbo (bottom) - both are common ciliates in fresh water. DIC (differential interference microscopy) 20X DIC
2. Unidentified ciliate from Moss Euplotidae? 40X DIC
3. Nassophorean Nassula ornata - 40X Darkfield
4. Loxophyllum helus - 40X DIC

Photographed using Nikon D500 on Zeiss Axioscope using Digicam control software on my Alienware laptop.
