I came across a few small "rafts" of eggs on the surface of a really "ripe" outdoor container. After photographing them I kept them in a dish of clean spring water hoping to see what would hatch out. Unfortunately they succumbed to the bacteria and fungus they were laid on. So I never found out what they were.
Although very different in appearance from the (Culex) mosquito egg raft I usually find, these eggs were about the same size (slightly larger). The surface was covered with short hairs or bristles that held tiny droplets of water in a regular pattern.
Eggs on waters surface (mosquito?)
