Fresh water ciliates and vegetation ID

Post by dragonblade »

Here's a fresh water sample taken from a creek on Kangaroo Island in South Australia, Australia. Wondering if anyone can identify the organisms and vegetation here? I don't suppose the ciliate going up and down the vegetation on the right is a Euplotes? Though it is significantly smaller than the Euplotes I recorded in a brackish water sample from a river.

The ciliate is a euplotid, but probably a small cousin of Euplotes called Aspidisca. :)

Thankyou Bruce. Both look quite similar to me. I guess the vegetation might be too difficult to identify? I'll try and get more of a 'macro' photo of it.
