ID on Eggs?

Post by houstontx »

Can anyone ID these insect eggs? Found on a dogwood tree, We are thinking ladybug, cottonwood beetle, or cabbage white butterfly. 10 image stack, Wild M5APO on 12x setting, 2.5x Nikon CFL Projection Eypiece, Canon T3i. Sorry for bad quality.

Mods please move if in wrong forum. Thanks

The "crown of thorns" appearance is typical of true bug eggs, something in Hemiptera such as stink bugs.

Compare Google image searches for "stink bug eggs" versus "ladybird eggs", "cottonwood beetle eggs", "cabbage butterfly eggs".

Looks like the stink bug eggs I found on an asparagus stem years ago. Time lapse of them hatching here:

The hatch appears to be synchronized.
