Thanks. Just out of curiosity I stopped down my Olympus OM series 50mm relay lens down to f5.6 ( nearing the sweet spot of f8) to see if I could get some better definition. I will see how that goes.

Your second image does show more contrast, is it due to the relay lens stopped down?
Just out of curiosity I stopped down my Olympus OM series 50mm relay lens down to f5.6 ( nearing the sweet spot of fCool to see if I could get some better definition. I will see how that goes.
I assume you're doing afocal. In my experience stopping down the camera lens just improves a bit contrast, past a certain point (F8 with the OM50mm 1.8 in my system) it just vignettes. The lens doesn't act like in normal photography, its diaphragm acts more like a flare cutting stop, in certain sense like the microscope field diaphragm
