Hairforce one

Post by sushidelic »

Made with an awkward but nice combination - a Mitty 20x mounted on a BX 52. The can is so long that I had to remove the stage and condenser, ending up with the lens going through (!) the stage mount ring, and the slide was lying on the condenser holder.

Hi there sushidelic,
I´ve made several of hairy images. Love artificial dyed hair.
The challenge was to make the knots.

Very well done, great light and detail :D
Kind Regards
Harald

Thanks for your comments!

@Harald: This is one of my own hairs (from the head of course :) ), so you as an expert can see, that it isn't dyed (yet)!

Hair dye was in fact the reason I made this picture. I'm just making a Hair Dye TVC, also visualizing the "methodology" of the different ingredients of the dye and how it works inside the hair. So I googled quite a bit of microscopic hair images as referenc and thought: Time to make your own!

Best regards,
Michael

Very nice image.
just a little bit of info? this is called a thief knot?
stems from sailing days when sailors would tie up their duffle bags with this knot so they could tell if any one had been in the bag.
used to do astronomy.
and photography.

Super detail and lighting. Are you planning to post more at different stages of dyeing? Wondering if it will reveal extra detail...

Interesting to find out about the knot as well. It doesn't sound very useful though as it only tells you your gear was already nicked! And then only if the thief didn't just re-tie it the same :)

No, this is a figure-of eight knot. Usually used as a stopper to prevent a sheet or halyard unreeving.

A thief knot looks like a reef knot but has the ends on opposite sides.

Nice pic! I am tempted to try it myself...

as a stopper no use at all.
called a thief knot as this will undo itself and become loose,
as most sailors were only using standard knots, it would become apparent when looking at your bag that someone had been in your bag because the knot that they used would be fixed.

Errr, but the knot pictured is not a thief knot, it's a figure of eight.

I've been sailing 35 years and climbing for almost as long. My first proper job was doing research into knot strengths for the health and safety executive. But don't take my word for it, just google it.

slightly off subject in talking about knots.

Board of trade tug boat skipper 17 years , sailor 50 odd years.

sailors duffle bag would never have loose ends to tie on rope as you just pull the bag open as far as loop already tied,
to close your bag you would pull the loop, then you would tie this knot to lock it tight in the loop, against the bag! try it on a loop of rope?
