Thanks Beatsy. I think the overall lighting is ok but I should have stacked from the RAW files using my own choices for contrast and brightness, rather than stacking straight from the jpgs. Will do that when I have a moment. I still have to describe and draw more of these before the journal's deadline in a few days. I can tweak the photos during the peer-review process....

My students and I discovered about 30 new species of these Teagueia species in the mountains around my house. The genus only had eight species worldwide before that. It is an exciting and unexpected evolutionary radiation. You can read more about them in my blog posts here:

My foundation has bought the mountains where they grow and turned them into ecological reserves. See these blog posts for the story of how we raised the money to do that. David Attenborough was a big help!

Gosh Lou! Your efforts are amazing, and positively humbling too!

Too much to swallow in one sitting though - I'll read more of the blog in the coming weeks. Meanwhile, I'm now "following" to keep up to date. Thanks for the links.

Thanks for being interested, Beatsy. Unfortunately when too much is going on (as now) the blog gets quiet, because I've got no time to write. But during my next calm spell the blog will fill up.
