Adapter for Mitutoyo and 62mm and 77mm filters

Post by Purpuricenus »

Hi everyone, I'm just about to purchase, after prepararing all the other stuff for placing the subject, a Mitutoyo objective. I wanted to use as tube lensed a Sigma 105mm macro and a Nikkor 300mm. They have 62mm and 77mm filters. So I tried to find an adapter from the Mitutoyo to the filters, but I couldn't. Do you know what I can take for my purpose?

Step down rings are designed for putting smaller filters on bigger lenses.
They're very cheap from China.

You use one objective adapter, which could be say 52mm or 62mm, and a step-down ring to get to it if needed.

52mm is a semi-standard, for which you can also buy extension tubes.

Thank you Chris, so you suggest to put a step-down ring to go from a 77mm filter to a 52, and buy an adapter from mitutoyo to 52mm filter? Because I can't find this one...

Not difficult to find at ebay, search mitutoyo 26 52 adapter at www.ebay.com

Rafcamera makes mitutoyo to M52x0.75 and also a 62mm that can be mounted directly on your macro:

Others can be mounted with the adequate easy to find adapters (M49x0.75, M42x1...)

62mm female to 77mm male is a step-up adapter, but because some not rare confusion in the terminology take a look at the threads before ordering it

As far as I'm aware, the convention which is well held to, is that the camera end comes first. You need something to put a 62mm filter on a 72mm lens, so that's called a step down adapter/ring.

I doesn't hurt to check, though! (Which I'll do - perhaps the convention is loosening.)

I could never figure this out, so just ordered both step up and down rings. This helped keep Murphy away for awhile! They were so cheap anyway!

Chris, you're right...in most cases. After a more intense ebay search I've found the step-up term mainly used in the sense you pointed but a significative amount meaning just the opposite

for example, http://www.ebay.com/itm/K-F-Concept-58m ... SwEzxYeDdd

Ach, the world is broken. That used to be a rule everyone stuck to. :(

@Purpuricenus - buy a full set of step-ups and step-downs. Less than $10 the lot. You'll need them sooner or later!
