Sphingidae ID?

Post by christerb »

Hi,

I saw this in Mulu recently, and was fascinated by it. I have been a bit iffy what it was, but it seems to be some kind of Sphingidae. Anyone have an idea of what species it is? I was especially fascinated how it was constantly moving the hairy hind legs.

Why do you think it's Sphingidae?
What are the wings like?

I found some pics of Cephonodes that had a similar appearence, so I assumed they at least belong to the same family. This is what the wings looks like.
