FAQ: How do I link to a particular post in a long thread?

"How do I link to a particular post in a long thread?"

This is simple but obscure.

The trick is to display the desired post in your browser, then obtain the required URL by clicking on the little "document" icon that appears at the front of that post's header line:

That will refresh the page using a URL that embeds the posting number, something like this:
http://www.photomacrography.net/forum/v ... 1022#51022

Just wrap that URL in [url] tags as usual, to make the link in your own posting.

What's going on here is that the initial 51022 tells the forum software viewtopic.php to display the page containing posting 51022, while the #51022 tells your browser to jump to a tag that viewtopic places just in front of that posting. The document icons are provided by the forum software to make it easy to generate these URLs.
