Camellia and Hellebore

Post by gardenersassistant »

These were captured hand-held yesterday in the field (well, in our garden). Recently I have taken to using a tripod for this sort of scene but these subjects were so awkwardly positioned that using a tripod was not feasible even with my very flexible tripod and the hands-on technique that I usually employ that lets me use the tripod in highly unstable configurations to reach awkwardly positioned subjects.

I used 6K post focus with a Panasonic G9 and Olympus 60mm macro. I used Helicon Focus to extract JPEGs from the 6K videos and stack them, and used Lightroom to finish the images.

Close up of the same flower. (Quite a large crop, but not cropped from the above image.)

Very nice images. I particularly like the second one; good color and very good pollen detail.

Thanks. I'm pleased with the colours the G9 is giving me. I think it is probably helping that I am setting the camera white balance quite frequently during a session using the grey panel of a ColorChecker Passport. (Not particularly that it is a ColorChecker Passport; that is simply providing a - presumably 18% - grey area in a robust package. But helping in that I am at last getting into the habit of setting the white balance out in the field.)
