Thanks for the nice comments, and for asking.
For the Orchid I used a small camera (Olympus tg-4) to be able to place the camera close enough to cover all details. I took 386 in camera focus stacked pictures (resolution only 2400 x 3200). The camera saves the stacked picture and the first picture in the 8-picture stack. My first attempt was with al 772 pictures (stacked and first frames). This worked so I did not try to use the subsets, but my guess is that you can do this without stacking with a mobile phone.
Normally I use a Canon 5d II and try to choose distance and f value to have the entire subject in focus. The difference between the tg-4 and the 5D II is not so much in the quality of the 3D model but in the quality of the picture, have a look at this Elastolin figure for an example.

I use Agisoft Photoscan, the new masking options that came a few months ago is a huge help.

Normally max 10 degrees between every picture. For an object that can be turned I usually do three circles and more than 110 pictures. My experience is also that every point on the subject should be on at least 3 photos. The orchid had a lot of “hidden” areas therefore the high number of pictures.zzffnn wrote:Amazing work!
