As common as creatures come, this mosquito. Yet so fascinating when seen up close and so perfectly evolved to survive through the ages.

Photographed in Quintana Roo, Yucatan Peninsula. Nikon D90, Micro-Nikkor 60mm, Nikon SB-600 off-camera flash.

They're definitely deserving of respect, and their exquisitely fine-tuned biological adaptation is pretty awe-inspiring. Very nice.
