Sillimanite - Mica Schist Dalradian

Post by micro_pix »

A 30 micron section of Sillimanite - Mica schist from Aberdeenshire, Scotland. The section is 3cm x 2cm, photographed in transmitted and reflected polarized light together (hence the colour shift). It's a stitch of 72 images from a 2.5X MSPlan Objective.

You can click on the image to go to a higher-res Zoomable version. I'm trying out a service called Sirv, it looks good in the full screen mode.

Thanks for the comments.

It's a good service; occasionally the zoom is a little slow to come in to focus. The free hosting is limited to 250mb I think and each file is limited to 35mb.

Here's another rock slice, around the same size but with larger granules. This is Eucrite from Ardnamurchan, Scotland. This time just transmitted X Polars.
