I don't know of problems with Protostar but others will have more experience of it.
It would be interesting to try a ring of various things, to see if it makes any difference - even white/reflective to see what effect.
I have a couple of microscopes which I was surprised to find have chromium plated surfaces inside the tube.
I lined it with ordinary black art paper - probably much the same as Ray's "Construction paper" which made a small difference. Protostar is darker, but it made no further improvement.

I've had mixed experience of the need for flocking in tubes and adapters.
