Wow, very nice! I just got my Optiphot Universal BD Plan Epi-Illuminator up and running. Is this done with a similar setup? Very impressive. So this is a diatom simply sitting on top of a slide correct?

2x yes :)
The NeoSPlan 50x you used has NA of 0.80, correct?
You're right - and it pretty much delivers. Smallest separable details in the images are ~310nm apart, which is close to its theoretical limit.
