Procedure for teardown and rebuild of Olympus BH-2.

Post by carlh6902 »

I finally got around to finishing this one up:

Edited 4/14/2019 to replace the link with a link to the complete index. This index contains links to the most recent versions of all my documents:

https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B7ckZ ... nFYVDJSRW8

This shows how to teardown and rebuild the coaxial focus mechanism in an Olympus BH-2 scope, to get rid of the dried and gummy grease and make the stand perform like new again.

I hope somebody finds this helpful.

Thanks for posting this. As a BH2 owner I know I almost certainly will have to attempt this at some point in the future, this will help immensely.

Great work, thank you for sharing!
Nikon Labophot/Optiphot's focus mechanism is a bit different.

Wonderful Carl, thanks so much.
Do you/anyone know how different a CH2 or CH30 mechanism would be?

I've never actually tore into a CH-2. But in looking through the PDF of the CH repair manual on Alan wood's site, the exploded view looke VERY familiar to me, so I'd say the CH-2 is probably really close.

Good news, thanks. I thought they might be close. A CH30 I use most regularly has developed a "clunk", right side knob I think. :smt087

BH2 Focus Document - Revision 2

Post by carlh6902 »

FYI -

To anybody who's interested, I have updated the file in the above link to revision 2. This change corrects a few minor errors, as listed on the cover sheet.
