Raynox 43mm to M42 coupler for reversing

Post by ChrisR »

Rafcamera has these
which saves a 3-ring solution:

It would work like this:
(nb - I don't have one and this isn't to scale:)

Right now it's not on his eBay site but when it appears I expect it'll be post free.

Strange you posted this Chris, about a week ago I asked him to make these for me and 2 of each are on their way to me.

Hi Alan.
Your adapters are finished:

Thanks.

I suggested it to him a couple of weeks ago.
He's pretty quick to make things. I imagine he has it very automated.

A 52 to 43 would be more use for reversing if both threads were female.
Then the 52 could take a flat objective adapter.

Chris would a flat adapter be better than a cone.

I have a couple of cones. Good for a few things but internal reflections can be a problem, they need flocking. For a long thing like a Mitutoyo I don't see much point, and their extension can be unwanted.
M42 works OK. And it suits the available diaphragms.
If you want to use a ring flash, screw on hood or diffuser, you can use one of Rafcamera's other adapters..
I do have one of those.

From left to right
Microscope objective
Rafcamera 25mm to m43x0.75 step ring
Rafcamera m43x0.75 to m42x1m female step ring
Reversed Raynox 250
Rafcamera m49x0.75m to m42x1m step ring
M42 extension tubes
17-31 macro focusing Helicoid adapter to Sony A7rii
Sony A7rii

I am yet to test this as I'm not sure what length from objective to camera to add extension tubes

ChrisR or rjlittlefield have you a suggestion as to the total length I should start with.

I don't know that distance but the right position is the one where the Raynox tube lens itself (without objective) will form a focused image of a distant object "at infinite"

Pau's test always gives the right answer.

As a starting point, the label on my Raynox DCR-150 says "Infinity focus at 175.9 mm from male shoulder of reversed lens to flange of Canon camera". You'll need to adjust that for the thickness of the lens and your adapters, and for the flange focal distance of your Sony versus my Canon at 44.0 mm.

The label on my DCR-250 says the same thing, but 90.5 mm.
