Utricularia - inside the bladder of doom
Greetings! I'd like to share with you some confocal images of the trap (or bladder) of an aquatic carnivorous plant, Humped bladderwort (Utricularia gibba). Enjoy!
Magnification: 100x
Microscope: Zeiss confocal laser scanning microscope LSM 710.
Objective: 10x, NA 0.45
Laser lines: 405, 488, 562 nm.
Colors: blue and green - cellulose stained with Calcofluor white; red - autofluorescence of chloroplasts.

Thanks, Carlos. The traps were fixed in 2% formaldehyde/2% glutaraldehyde in pond water, stained with Calcofluor White, embedded in 6% agarose, sectioned with Vibratome @ 0.5 mm in 2 planes (frontal, sagital), mounted in slightly alkaline water.carlos.uruguay wrote:Impressive!!!!
