Post by Linden.g »

I finally got a chance to try out DIC on snowflakes. 10x achromat with DIC flash on BH-2.

Hello

That's really amazing.
In my Burgundy, snowflakes do not last long enough for me to take pictures.
I apologise for my poor english

Hi,

very nice, so many interesting details. :-)

Did you photograph the real snow or impress/cast on laque or so?

Greetings

Jens

Thanks, Frederic and Jens, these are the centers of the actual snowflakes and not impressions. I placed the microscope at -5C and collected flakes onto a black card and then placed them on the slide.

Love the last one. I am too scared to take my new microscope out into the cold...

Me too, I took the precaution to wrap the scope when bringing it back in to avoid condensation. There doesn't appear to me any damage but I assume there may be some risk for separation of optical elements. It's like anything, risk is often part of achieving something new. I'm not sure I've seen DIC on snowflakes before so it was an exciting thing to try.

Thank you to everyone for the kind comments
